State of the Franchises – NFC West

Fantasy Outlook By Division NFC West If there is a phrase that seems to fit the NFC West it’s “feast or famine”. The teams that make up the West seem to rise and fall in unison – it’s either hyper competitive or filled with bottom feeders. Next season it looks like it’s going to be the former. After their loss in Super Bowl 54 the San Fransisco 49ers will open the season as favourites but will face competition from the Seattle Seahawks and LA Rams and may even see a significant improvement from the Arizona Cardinals. San Fransisco 49ers Despite …

State of the Franchises – NFC North

Fantasy Outlook By Division NFC North In recent years the NFC North has proven to be one of the most competitive and volatile divisions in the entire league. After early decade dominance by the Green Bay Packers the division has had a new winner every year since 2014. I imagine it’ll surprise nobody that only the Detroit Lions don’t have divisional win in the past decade, in fact it’s now nearly 30 years since they last won the division. After an impressive 13-3 season and a run to the NFC Championship game, Green Bay will enter the season as presumptive …

State of the Franchises – NFC East

Fantasy Outlook By Division NFC East Dallas Cowboys The Cowboys enter the season as the prohibitive favourites for the NFC East. They flattered to deceive last year, with the league’s number one offense somehow being unable to beat out the injury ravaged Eagles for the division title. After clinging to Jason Garrett well past the point it was clear to everyone that he wasn’t the answer, Jerry Jones has turned to former Green Bay Head Coach Mike McCarthy as he desperately attempts to find a path to reclaim his former glories. The offseason has seen significant reinforcements with an impressive …

Dynasty Questions Keeping Me Awake At Night

#notanexpert Disclaimer: Following any advice or suggestions in the following article may or may not help your dynasty team but the writer takes no responsibility whatsoever for the results. Thanks everyone who submitted questions, for this week’s (might be month’s) Dynasty Questions Keeping me Awake At Night. Here we go: Q1. @AndrewHallFF Is Ke’Shawn Vaughn really that much better than RoJo? Since the Buccaneers spent the 76th pick on Vanderbilt running back Ke’Shawn Vaughan he’s quickly become one of the most polarising rookie draft topics. On one hand his supporters see a productive college back with pretty decent draft capital …

UDFA’s – Who Might Be Worth A Stash

Every year a couple of guys fall through the cracks. The NFL Draft is an imperfect, if dramatic, way of selecting future stars and despite teams spending more and more time, money and effort on scouting, background checks and analytics, they still miss. Wes Walker made five pro-bowls with the Patriots and Broncos. He was signed after the draft by the San Diego Chargers as most scouts thought he was too small to make an impact. Priest Holmes was one of the leagues most dynamic running backs early this century after breaking the Ravens roster as a free agent – …

NFL Draft Losers

The period between free agency and the draft is probably the most dangerous for any dynasty owner. There is a real tendency towards assuming that free agency gives a definitive guide to team strategy and that the draft will then be used to fill any remaining holes. In practice it’s a minefield of banking on starters whose position is much more tenuous than you might think. The draft produces winners every year, but more often than not it crushes the hopes of dynasty owners who put too much faith in past production. This year was no exception and coming out …

NFL Draft Winners 2

NFL Draft Reaction More Draft Winners Dak Prescott: The fantasy world has always had a strange relationship with Dak Prescott. He’s been a consistent fantasy contributor from the very beginning, and been a top 10 QB in all four seasons that he’s been in the league. Yet, doubts remain. The Cowboys QB certainly shows inconsistency on the field, he’s had a tendancy to be somewhat boom and bust for fantasy owners and that seems to have bled into perennial underrating. There was without doubt a period when he struggled with a poor supporting cast, but since the acquisition of Amari …

NFL Draft Reaction. 5 Big Winners A week on from the NFL Draft rosters are beginning to settle, and as the teams begin their virtual off season programme the fog of uncertainty around fantasy football rankings is, ever so slightly, starting to clear. The draft, as it so often does, created as many questions as it answered but in a few spots it produced some big winners. Here’s a quick guided to five of the biggest winners from last weekend: Jordan Howard: It probably shouldn’t really need saying, but Jordan Howard is actually a very good running back. In four …

NFL Draft: Instant Analysis

Tammy Anthony Baker from Louisiana / CC BY (https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/2.0)

The draft has fascinated me for as long as I’ve been an NFL fan. The mix of team building analysis and personal drama strikes the perfect balance of entertainment and intellectual narrative. This year, more than any in recent memory, the draft couldn’t have come at a better time; as the world struggles to come to terms with the implications of the COVID-19 epidemic, three days of escapism into the world of NFL team building delivered everything that makes people love the game of football and a lot more besides. In the last few years the draft has become an …

Fantasy Season Review: Week 3

By week 3, everything was clear. The Cowboys and Patriots were unstoppable forces. Gardner Minshew was on his way to being Rookie of the Year, the Dolphins really were “tanking for Tua” and the Browns might not be for real after all. At least the last one was true. Russell Wilson had a huge week even as the Seahawks fell to the Teddy Bridgwater led Saints, throwing for 400 yards and two touchdowns and running for 51 yards and two more touchdowns. Despite Wilson’s heroics and a monster outing for Tyler Lockett (11/154/1) the Saints took the win despite producing …
